La Grande Police Department Schedules Drug Disposal

On September 25, 2010, the La Grande Police Department, with the collaboration of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency,) will offer two (2) drop locations allowing you to clean out any and all potentially dangerous controlled substances from your medicine cabinets.

Collection locations will be in the parking lot at the La Grande Safeway Store and at the 24 Hour Relay activities at the La Grande High School.  Collections will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at both locations.

The National Take Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction.  These drugs are a potential source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

Although the program is anonymous, uniformed staff will be present for security purposes.

Acceptable Items:

  • Prescriptions and over the counter solid dosage medications, i.e., tablets and capsules
  • Cough syrups or other liquid prescriptions; lids must be attached

Non-acceptable Items:

  • Intra-venous solutions, injectable solutions and needles

Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamines are not part of this initiative.  However, they will be accepted at these drop locations and destroyed by means other than the DEA.

For questions regarding this program, please contact Lt. Derick Reddington, La Grande Police Department, at 541-963-1017.
